Standard Menu

Sarawak Kuching Kolo Mee

The Sarawak Kuching Kolo Mee is similar to the Wan Tan Mee of Penang except the one in Penang is with black soya sauce. It is also similar to the one in Singapore except in Singapore, it comes with chilli sauce.

The Kolo Mee is good and I would recommend you to try it if you have not done so.

The Wanton soup is available with Abalone if you order it.

The fried wanton.

The Sarawak Kuching Kolo Mee is quite special in taste except it is a bit dry. Overall, I would recommend a visit to a Jia Xiang's outlet when you are around the area during lunch time.

Where to buy Penang Famous Tau Sar Pheah in Penang

If you are looking for the Penang Famous Tau Sar Pheah, my pick is Ghee Hiang Penang.

It has a history of more than 150 years, established in 1856.

Ghee Hiang Penang is located at 216 Macalister Road, Penang.

The price for all their biscuits are more expensive than others but the packaging is more presentable if you are giving them away as gifts. The biscuits are wrapped individually or in rows in plastic wrappers in the box.

The next best place where you can buy the famous Tau Sar Pheah is HIM HEANG .

Him Heang is located in Jalan Burma. It is very popular with tourists and it is very difficult to get a car park in-front of the shop.

Hoe Heong's "Tau Sar Pheah" is very popular in the Penang International Airport. The price is not surprising very much expensive in the airport.

You can buy Hoe Heong's Tau Sar Pheah" in their shop in Ayer Itam.

I always buy Hoe Heong's Tau Sar Pheah in their factory outlet in Kedai Biskut Hoe Heong off Air Itam Road on the way to Sunshine FARLIM Supermarket off the road before the Shell Petrol Station. They are fresh as I get them straight from the oven when they are available in the afternoon.

COCOA TREES in Malaysia

The cocoa tree was originated in the Upper Amazon basin. It grows only in the tropical regions of Africa, Asia, South America and Central America within 15 degrees of the equator. It grows best in the shade of other trees.

The cocoa tree needs to be shaded from strong tropical sun and sheltered from the wind. It can grow up to 50 feet tall.

It needs constant warmth and rainfall to thrive.

The cocoa trees begin to produce fruits in 3 to 5 years. The fruits are the rugby-shaped pods that contain the seeds that will become cocoa beans.

A typical cocoa rugby-shaped pod.

Dragon Fruits

We all know that dragon fruits are products of Vietnam.

Do you know how the tree of a Dragon Fruit looks like? Well, on a trip to Ayer Tawar, Perak, Malaysia, I was introduced to the Dragon Fruit Tree.

It turns out to be from a cactus family as you can see from the photo above.

You can see the dragon fruits hanging on the cactus branches.

The flesh of the dragon fruits is white in color with many small black seeds. They are high nutrition fruits and rich in Vitamin C.

A better view of the dragon fruits. Photo taken in the garden of a friend in Ayer Tawar, Perak, Malaysia.
