Penang Hawker Food : Kafe Mandarin

KAFE MANDARIN - Lorong Delima 6 - PENANG

Kafe Mandarin

There are many Penang Hawker Food stalls in the Kafe Mandarin

Penang Char Koay Teow

Penang Laksa

We went to look for old Kedai Kopi Genting in shoplot at the junction of Lorong Delima 6 and Lorong Delima 3 in the evening for dinner but found it empty but directly behind Kedai Kopi Genting, there is the new Kafe Mandarin brightly lit-up and full of people.

We decided to give it a try. There are many stalls selling all the different Penang Hawker food - Char Koay Teow, Pan Mee, Hokkien Mee, Laksa,Koay Teow Soup, Popiah, Chicken Rice, Indian Nasi, Rojak and many others.

We had Penang char koay teow and Penang laksa. The Char Koay Teow was quite good for MR2.80 only. The Penang Laksa was a disappointment as it was not up to standard even though it was only MR2.50.

Penang Hawker Food : Char Koay Teow, Lor Bak, Ice-Kachang in Lorong Selamat

Lorong Selamat is a one-way street, entrance from Jalan Macalister

Kedai Kopi Dan Ice Kachang in Lorong Selamat

The Char Koay Teow & the Lor Bak stalls arein push-carts

Lor Bak Prawn Fritters Push-cart

Lor Bak & Prawn Fritters

The Lor Bak and Prawn Fritters are quite good. They are comparable with other stalls in Penang. It is recommended.

Char Koay Teow Push-cart Stall

Char Koay Teow

The Char Koay Teow with eggs cost us MR5.50 for each plate. It is not as good as the one up the road fried by his mother. It is rather bland and the koay teow is over cooked until they came in pieces rather than in tact. The big prawns save the day.

Ice Kachang

The Ice Kachang with ice-cream is good and not so sweet. It is recommended as a dessert if you do eat in the coffee shop.

Overall, we enjoyed our lunch in the Kedai Kopi & Ice Kachang in Lorong Selamat. There are many other push-carts selling other Penang hawer fares outside the coffee shop. If you looking for a place to have lunch in Penang, do go to Lorong Selamat.

Penang Hawker Food : Char Koay Teow

Kafe Heng Huat in Lorong Selamat

The expensive Char Koay Teow - MR6 or MR8 for a plate.

The Famous Lady hard at work frying the famous Char Kaoy Teow

The Famous Lorong Selamat Char Koay Teow

Good News - the long queue in the sun is long gone for those who complained of waiting in the sun for your turn. Now you just order and sit in comfort in the Kafe (Coffee Shop) enjoying your drink and wait for your Char Koay Teow to be delivered to your table.

There is only one stall in this coffee shop. Everyone is there for the famous Char Koay Teow, so you can see how long you have to wait depending on the number of people in the coffee shop. At least, now we can enjoy our famous Char Koay Teow in peace.

It is still one of the best Char Koay Teow in Penang. The Kafe Heng Huat is located in Lorong Selamat.

Fried Rice - OK , nothing special.

Char Koay Teow - taste authentic but nothing special.

It is an ideal place to bring your oversea's friends here to try local Penang Hawker food for lunch or dinner as it is clean and meet oversea's standard of hygiene. The food might not be the best but it is authentic.

Penang Hawker Food in NEW CATHAY coffee shop in Penang, Malaysia

Kedai Kopi NEW CATHAY is located at the junction of Lorong Kucing and Jalan Burma.

The landmark to look for is this Church "Immaculate Conception" along Jalan Burma. Kedai Kopi NEW CATHAY is located in-front of this Church.

Kedai Kopi NEW CATHAY has many Penang Hawker Food stalls. It is open for breakfast and lunch. There are car parks around but it is difficult to locate one as the place is popular with locals. The food are quite good and it is recommended you give it a go if you are looking for place for breakfast or lunch.

Char Koay Teow is good and comparable with others in the Island.

The Wan Tan Mee is good with generous ingredients. It comes with a bowl of wanton soup.

The Poh Piah is ordinary

The Koay Teow Th'ng (Soup) is quite good in taste and can be considered one of the better Koay Teow Soup I have eaten in the Island. It is highly recommended.

The Sar Hor Fun is good with fresh ingredients. I would recommend it to anyone who likes Sar Hor Fun.

There are so many stalls that serves good Penang Hawker food in one location (coffee shop) that I would recommend that you visit this Kedai Kopi NEW CATHAY if you are in Jalan Burma.
